Cynthia Teniente-Matson

Cynthia Teniente-Matson is the 31st president of San José State University. Since beginning in January 2023, she has driven strategic growth, earning SJSU an R2 research designation and a #5 ranking among public universities (Wall Street Journal). As an internationally recognized Latina leader with extensive executive experience across multiple state university systems, President Teniente-Matson is a champion for student success and institutional innovation, and her leadership has resulted in new partnerships with leading tech companies, including NVIDIA and Adobe. Her priorities include AI Everywhere, a university-wide initiative to advance SJSU’s leadership in the development, application, and assessment of AI and machine learning. She earned a doctorate from CSU Fresno, an MBA from the University of Alaska Anchorage, and a BBA in Management from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
