Gisela Argote
Gisela A. Argote is an undergraduate senior at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), and is pursuing a degree in both Political Science and History with a minor in African-American Studies. Gisela is presently employed at the UTEP School of Nursing, is an inducted member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society, and currently serves as President of the Brazilian Culture Center at UTEP. Gisela was awarded the Marian and Alina Komarnicki Scholarship for the 2018-2019 academic year. The scholarship is awarded each year to political science students based on academic excellence, merit, and a high GPA. Gisela was nominated to present her junior-senior seminar paper, An Unknown Mexico: The Complicated Acceptance of Jewish Refugees During Nazism (1933-1945) at the Frances G. Harper Student History Conference in December 2018 and won 2nd place. She is currently ranked among the top 10% of all undergraduates at UTEP and has made the Dean’s List continuously since the fall of 2016. In the fall of 2018, Gisela was one of the ten students selected to become part of the 3rd cohort of the HSI Pathways Program at UTEP.
Gisela was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. She has a younger sister and is the proud daughter of two Mexican parents. Gisela is also the happy owner of a cat, Frida, and a dog, Cooks. She enjoys sports, spending quality time with loved ones, attending concerts, reading, and watching superhero films. In the future, Gisela would like to backpack through Western Europe and publish her own book.
