New Brunswick, NJ (July 8, 2019) —The Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions (CMSI) is pleased to announce that it has been granted $375,000 over three years from The Kresge Foundation to support the continued development and operations of CMSI at Rutgers University, New Brunswick.
“Our nation’s Minority Serving Institutions play a key role in helping us achieve equitable college attainment goals. In just five short years, the Center has become a critical hub of scholarship and activity, producing insightful research and programming that promotes the strength and sustainability of these institutions, ” said Caroline Altman Smith, deputy director for the Kresge Foundation’s Education Program. “Kresge is proud to continue its support of the Center during this next chapter of growth.”
The grant will support CMSI as it continues its signature programs, research, and publications at its new home at Rutgers University’s Graduate School of Education. The funds will be used to further the Center’s goals of elevating the contributions of Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs), increasing rigorous scholarship related to MSIs, and advancing effective policies that have a positive impact on MSIs and their stakeholders.
“Kresge’s continued support of our Center will help us expand our reach and impact. We are honored to receive the foundation’s support and look forward to bolstering our programs and initiatives to increase our capacity to serve the growing number of MSIs across the nation,” said Marybeth Gasman, the Judy and Howard Berkowitz Professor of Education at the University of Pennsylvania.
"We are excited and honored to welcome the Center for Minority Serving Institutions to its new home and are grateful to the Kresge Foundation for their continued support of CMSI and Dr. Gasman," said Rutgers GSE Dean Wanda J. Blanchett. "This grant will further the GSE's commitment to Advancing Excellence and Equity in Education through the impactful work of CMSI and Dr. Gasman."
