Kemuel Benyehudah

Kemuel Benyehudah is a Visiting Scholar and Research Associate at the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Institute for Leadership, Equity, and Justice and the Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions. He is originally from Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Hunter College in Manhattan, New York with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 2008. After graduation, he worked with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Sydney, Australia as an Advocate for refugees. Inspired by his advocacy with the United Nations, and prior service with Americorps, Kemuel began working as a college access coordinator at Children’s Village in 2009. Kemuel’s work as a college access coordinator from 2009-2013 further directed his passions towards pursuing a graduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania.

Kemuel earned a master's degree in both Literacy and Higher Education from the University of Pennsylvania in 2017. His interests intersect Black males, nontraditional students, college classrooms, and Minority Serving Institutions. His work experience in the arts includes working with the education department at the Mütter Museum; working on the curatorial team for the Arthur Tress Collection of Japanese Illustrated books and prints; completing the Visual Arts for Coalition Equity Fellowship in Pittsburgh; and now working with the Mattress Factory on their community engagement efforts in the Steel city. During his free time, Kemuel writes about issues in the arts as a freelance writer for the Philadelphia based art publication, The ArtBlog. Currently, he is a doctoral candidate at the University of Pennsylvania.
