Astrid Sierra

Astrid Sierra is an applied linguistics and language education scholar whose work centers on transnational bilingual Latin/a/o/e/x educators, community-engaged scholarship, and asset-based approaches to multilingual education. Sierra earned her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland and currently serves as a professor in the School of Education at MSU Denver, where she prepares future teachers to work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Her research draws on Xicana/Latina feminist epistemologies, narrative inquiry, and arts-based pláticas to examine how transnational educators navigate identity, belonging, and professional practice across borders. Committed to equity in bilingual education, Sierra collaborates with schools, families, and educators to design learning spaces that honor community cultural wealth and multilingualism as strengths. Through her scholarship, teaching, and mentorship, she works to amplify educator voices and cultivate transformative educational ecosystems.
