Rutgers CMSI to host Third Aspiring Leaders Mid-Program Convening in Philadelphia this Spring!

New Brunswick, NJ, March 23, 2023 — The Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions (CMSI) will host a Mid-Program Convening for their MSI Aspiring Leaders program in Philadelphia, PA. The two-day event will take place on Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25, and will focus on cohort building and broadening the skills that Aspiring Leaders have gained so far throughout the two-year program.
The weekend will provide tools for navigating the many challenges that presidents of Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) face. Session topics will include balancing athletic and academic priorities, strengthening CVs, presidential fundraising skills, and negotiating presidential salary packages. Cohort members will hear from peers, mentors, and practitioners to learn how they can equip themselves to take on presidential roles.
“This convening brings together Aspiring Leaders and presidential mentors to nurture and build on existing relationships. The skill building and in-person mentorship is vital to making the MSI network stronger for the next generation of leaders,” shared Marybeth Gasman, Executive Director of the CMSI and the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Endowed Chair at Rutgers University.
Supported by grants from ECMC Foundation and The Kresge Foundation, MSI Aspiring Leaders is a program developed by the CMSI that brings together prominent leaders from MSIs to engage with mid-career aspiring leaders from education, non-profit, and business sectors in an effort to prepare the next generation of MSI presidents.
