Tanya Allen

Tanya Allen serves as Director of the Teaching & Learning Excellence Center at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas, where she leads initiatives that advance faculty development, innovative pedagogy, and student success. With over 20 years of experience across K–12 and higher education, she is committed to strengthening teaching and learning in ways that are inclusive, evidence-informed, and responsive to diverse student populations.

Allen earned a Ph.D. and M.M.E. in Music Education from Florida State University and a B.A. in Music Education from the University of New Orleans. She also serves as Associate Professor and coordinator of music education at TSU and recently completed a two-year term as Interim Chair of the Department of Music. 

Allen looks forward to participating in the Humanities Leadership Academy to deepen her capacity for academic leadership and to contribute to advancing transformative practices in higher education.
