Rocio Rivadeneyra

Rocio Rivadeneyra is the Director of the Honors Program at Illinois State University. She is an associate professor in the Department of Psychology and affiliated faculty in Latin American and Latino/a Studies as well as Women’s and Gender Studies at Illinois State. Rocio received her B.A. from the University of California, Irvine in Psychology and Social Behavior with a minor in Chicano/a Studies and her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in Psychology. She started her career at Illinois State University in 2002.

Rocio studies Latino/a youth development with a focus on gender, ethnic identity, and sexual socialization through media in the United States. She is interested in how young Latinas make sense of the different sexual messages on Spanish and English-language television and how these messages are socially constructed through the social viewing context. Rocio has been a Visiting Professor at the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies at the University of California, San Francisco as part of their Collaborative HIV-Prevention Research in Minority Communities Program and a Ford Foundation Fellow.
