Katherine R. McCance

Katie McCance is an Assistant Professor of Higher Education in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UT San Antonio). She is an interdisciplinary and collaborative scholar specializing in STEM higher education pedagogies and structures that advance equity and success for historically underrepresented and marginalized students in STEM. McCance’s current research examines institutional structures that support STEM student success at Hispanic Serving Institutions, inclusive practices of STEM teaching assistants, and interdisciplinary STEM collaborations in higher education. She is a faculty research fellow for the Urban Education Institute at UT San Antonio and an advisory board member for the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning at UT San Antonio. She has worked extensively on projects funded by NSF, USDA, and HHMI and has recently published in journals such as Studies in Higher Education and AERA Open. Katie earned her Ph.D. and M.Ed. in STEM Education from North Carolina State University and her Bachelor's in Biochemistry from Southwestern University.
