James Overton
James Overton serves as the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Massachusetts (UMass) Boston and has been at the institution for over 6 years. His responsibilities include oversight of the Early Learning Center (childcare), University Health Services, the Department of Public Safety, University OneCard Services, Student Affairs I/T, the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the student affairs budget. He serves on several university committees’ and is an adjunct instructor for the department of Sociology. Prior to this position, he was the Chief of Police on the campuses of UMass Boston and Delaware State University and has over 32 years of law enforcement experience. He is also recently retired from the Delaware Air National Guard after 24+ years of military service. James holds a B.A. in Sociology and a M.B.A. from Delaware State University, along with an M.S. in Human Resource Management from Wilmington University.
