John François

Born on the island of St. Lucia in the Caribbean, John François is a current sophomore at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY) majoring in Cell and Molecular Biology where he is a member of the John Jay Honors Program, and the Program for Research Initiatives in Science and Mathematics (PRISM). He is also a research intern at NYU’s Spatial Epidemiology lab. His research interests include studying diseases and environmental factors as well as social stressors that contribute to the biological processes that cause the onset and perpetuation of those diseases. He plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences and eventually continue his research on disease origin independently. He intends to focus his work primarily on lymphoid malignancies as he is particularly interested in learning about the way lymphatic cancer cells develop. Apart from his career goals, John loves sports and is also a member of the John Jay College Men’s Volleyball team. Typically, in athletics, he is referred to by his middle name, “Anthony.” He is excited to be a member of the 2019 cohort of Frederick Douglass Global Fellows! He is particularly looking forward to learning in an environment and culture outside of the United States alongside a group of like-minded, ambitious students.
