Ana Gomez Hernandez

Ana Lydia Gomez Hernandez was born in Sancti Spiritus, Cuba and emigrated to the United States in 2008, at the age of ten. She currently lives in Miami Beach and received her associate’s degree from Miami Dade College. She is currently pursuing a B.A. in English with a minor in History. Having worked multiple customer service jobs throughout high school, being raised by a single mother and at times being the sole provider of the household, Ana Lydia has grown to value education above all else, and sees it as a ladder for herself to rise above the difficult circumstances that she has had to deal with. She feels that if she pursues education wholeheartedly, the hard work that she has had to go through will have been worth it. Ana Lydia is a big fan of Lin-Manuel Miranda and his musical Hamilton, she feels that she relates to the character of Alexander Hamilton and his drive to rise above his station as an immigrant in a land of opportunities.
