Alexis Swope

Alexis Swope is a senior at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) majoring in History with double minors in Secondary Education and African American Studies. She works as a teacher education assistant for the UTEP Center for History Teaching and Learning. Her primary interests include African American history, Black feminism, women's studies, social justice movements, African American literature, and education. She hopes to deconstruct dominant cultural and historical notions of femininity and/or beauty that have politicized African American women along with addressing the subjects of female empowerment/theory, self-confidence, self-love, Black hair, and self-exploration.
